D*Face Surveillance
The installation element of this show was stunning. The oppressive somberness, the reverence and even the smell of a christian place of worship was captured to a T. I felt almost a necessity to genuflect, confess my sins (Bless me Coca-Cola for I have sinned, I prefer water) and hush the people talking in the chapel.
After going through that white space then along a narrow black corridor I emerged into a larger space where the main conventional art was hanging. It was only when I reached the far end of the space and saw a queue for the toilet that I realised I was in the usual BRP show space. It was honestly THAT dis-orientating. That sense of orientation felt like my own strong and personal interaction with the way the show was arranged, I was gobsmacked. So much so that I left without actually looking at the stuff on the walls, though the thronging crowd was also a factor. It still has me buzzing to think of how I felt at that moment.
I thought the way the illumination of the surveillance camera installation threw varied shadows on the wall was fantastic. I think from looking at this picture you will spot who this piece reminded me of....
